The Evelyn Cambridge Surgical Centre – world-class facility opened

Following funding of £1 million from the Evelyn Trust, this state-of-the-art surgical training facility was officially opened by Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, vice-chancellor of Cambridge University.

The centre, based in Melbourn, is one of the largest training facilities of its kind in Europe and will offer healthcare professionals from across the world the opportunity to learn and perfect their techniques. It will provide cutting-edge training in minimally-invasive and open surgery.

Facilities at the Evelyn Cambridge Surgical Training Centre include a large surgical training room with ten anatomical skills training stations – each simulating a self-contained operating theatre.

These first class training rooms with a  lecture theatre and a suite of meeting rooms  close by will provide an excellent environment for the training of surgeons both in the UK and abroad.The Evelyn Cambridge Surgical Centre will also foster an essential link between the health service and industry, paving the way for new developments in surgical techniques and devices. The centre will provide more than 70 courses each year in arthroscopic, endoscopic and open surgery on all parts of the body. Teaching and training will be delivered by local and regional faculties who are internationally recognised for their expertise in surgical skills and cadaveric training.
